Patience, care & understanding are essential to helping those to thrive, not just survive.
In Ohio, five people die by suicide every day. One youth dies by suicide every 33 hours. In 2018, there were 1,836 suicides in our State. In 2018, 271 of Ohio’s suicide deaths were among youth ages 10-24. Then there are those who are addicted to heroin, opioids, and equally dangerous illicit drugs. 3,764 Ohioans died from unintentional drug overdoses in 2018. Mental health issues and disease are often underlying factors of drug abuse and suicide.
Truth. No one likes the “C” word. Cancer. Cancer is the second most common cause of death in Ohio accounting for nearly one of every four deaths. Cancer is not one disease. Science has identified 100+ kinds of cancer. In pediatric brain tumor alone, there are 100 types of tumors and even if cured, children suffer life-long side effects.
There are many underlying issues associated with disease, addiction, and mental health wellness. We can lift those afflicted by addressing social determinants of health such as education, income, discrimination, quality of health care and access to healthy foods. Where we are born, live, learn, play, work and age, shouldn’t define who gets access to help. The organizations below help aid individuals in. You can support these organizations easily through volunteering time or providing a donation of goods, services, or funds.
