Local family shares why Empty Bowls project is so important
One local family is sharing their story to support Impact 60's Empty Bowls project, a local effort to fight hunger and homelessness.
Local attorney Tony Eufinger, along with his parents John and Charlotte, believes every neighbor deserves food security. Having lived in Marysville for nearly 40 years, the family says their own kitchen was always a place of safety and love.
"Every family in our community deserves to have that kind of security, that kind of love, that kind of support in their lives," Tony Eufinger said in a video promoting the Empty Bowl Project. The event is slated to be held on Sunday, March 15, from 11 to 1 at Memorial Health's Bistro '52.
Although Union County is among the wealthiest in Ohio, the family says many children still face hunger. They want to ensure students can focus on their studies rather than "growling stomachs".
"It disturbs me the most that we have kids that go to school hungry," John Eufinger said. "I personally want to see our school kids have a breakfast and a lunch every day so that they cannot concentrate on a growling stomach but on learning"
The Empty Bowls event allows community members to take home original art while raising money for local food pantries.
Charlotte Eufinger hopes the project reminds neighbors to look out for one another.
"The empty bowl is such a wonderful way to draw attention to the fact that so many children and families don't have that," Charlotte Eufinger said.
